Paul to Host Saturday Night Live

Jeff Bridges, Robert DeNiro, & Paul Rudd Will Host ‘SNL’

Okay, we can all gripe about the times when SNL missteps and that happens quite a bit (case and point: this weekend’s Scarlett Johansson episode); but we can also accept that it’s a sketch show that’s always been on the cheesy side and has constantly distributed duds since its birth in the 70s . Plus, the real reason we all continue to watch the show is not for the amazing writing or the on-point sketches; the big draw has always been the opportunity to see our favorite stars make complete fools of themselves and sometimes reveal their hidden comedic genius (see: Justin Timberlake and Jon Hamm). In that spirit, let’s all ramp up the excitement for the latest additions to the SNL hosting roster: Paul Rudd, Robert De Niro, and Jeff Bridges. There’s no way you’re not at least a little stoked about this.

Now, your life will probably not be changed after watching these guys play dress-up on NBC’s long-running show, but you have to admit it’s got to at least be entertaining. Paul Rudd will be hosting once again, and his last stunt was pretty damn good. Plus, his episode will feature a double dose of Paul – his musical guest will be none other than Paul McCartney. (I may actually watch the musical performances for that one instead of seeing what’s happening on Adult Swim until the skits come back.)

Dec. 11: Paul Rudd returns to host for his second time. Paul McCartney will appear as the musical guest.

Paul Rudd ‘Knocked’ out by fans at New York’s Lansdowne sports bar in Chelsea
Post Categories: News

Paul Rudd must be a Saints fan – because the funnyman was in an awfully good mood Sunday at the NYC sports bar Lansdowne when New Orleans took down the Minnesota Vikings.

A spy at the Chelsea hangout says that when a group of women at the next table recognized him and started quoting from his flick “Knocked Up,” the actor joined in the fun.

“He was finishing their sentences, and they were all doubled over laughing,” a fellow football fan told us. “Much of the bar started joining in.”

Zach Galifianakis To Write For Paul Rudd

Zach Galifianakis To Write For Paul Rudd In ‘Will,’ From The ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ Directors

We’ll next see blazing-hot funnymen Zach Galifianakis and Paul Rudd together in the summer comedy, “Dinner for Schmucks.” The sharp sense of timing and deadpan delivery that the two actors excel at ought to make for a fun on-screen combo.

I’m not the only one who thinks that either, as the news hit today, via Variety, that the duo will potentially team up for “Will,” a comedy directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. You might remember those two as the directors of “Little Miss Sunshine,” the quirky 2006 family comedy that earned both Alan Arkin and writer Michael Arndt their own Oscar wins. Dayton and Faris have been quiet since then, until now.

“Will” puts forth the fatalistic idea that we all live in a world in which events are predetermined by a staff of writers in Heaven. Rudd will play an Average Joe who wakes up one day to find that his writer, played by Galifianakis, has checked out. Left to live out an unscripted day, Rudd decides to take advantage of his newfound freedom. Sounds like a winner to me.

It’s an interesting development for Dayton and Faris, however. “Little Miss Sunshine” offered up a very subtle brand of comedy, dry and largely situational. Rudd and Galifianakis are both very funny in an up-front sort of way; I wonder how well their particular skills will blend mesh with Dayton and Faris. The article makes no mention of who is writing “Will” either, which could make a big difference. Rudd is already confirmed for his role, though Galifianakis is still in negotiations.

American Academy of Dramatic Arts Celebrates a Special Anniversary
Post Categories: Interviews, News

125 Years and Counting
The American Academy of Dramatic Arts celebrates a special anniversary.

Actor Paul Rudd, who graduated from the West Coast branch in 1991, says he has retained a few practical lessons from his time in school: “I had a teacher who said a great way to memorize lines is to write them out. I still do that.” He also notes that a “major moment” for him was when a guest director came in to work on a project and pointed out how self-conscious his class had become. “He just ripped apart everything that we had learned,” Rudd says. “He said you’re worried about what you’re doing, but you should worry about what the other person is doing. I thought that was brilliant.”

Judd Apatow Hints At An “Anchorman” Sequel
Post Categories: Movies, News

Aren’t direct sequels so overrated? Who wants to see what happens immediately after a hit movie anyway? Here’s a better idea: revisit a movie’s characters way, way down the line, when they’ve become old people. It’s kind of been done before. Look at “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”! But what if it didn’t have to take decades to deliver such a sequel?

This might actually be the concept behind the somewhat planned follow-up to “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy,” according to producer Judd Apatow. In an interview with Empire, he said that a sequel is now being discussed more seriously than it had been a year ago. We already knew that Will Ferrell met with creative minds from the first film earlier this year, but now it sounds like the next steps are being taken.

We hadn’t heard anything about plot ideas in the previous report. This time though… this time Apatow at least provides us with some vague hints.

“The great thing is,” he told Empire, “Will can be any age and play that character. Those anchormen sometimes have their jobs until they’re 75 years old. So we would always laugh that this movie could work if everybody’s really elderly.”

Setting “Anchorman 2” in the present and having Burgandy and friends aged up quite a bit makes perfect sense given the ending of the original “Anchorman.” Courtesy of one of those “what happened to” epilogues, we learned about the furthered careers of Ron, Veronica (Christina Applegate), Champ (David Koechner), Brian (Paul Rudd) and Brick (Steve Carell), who was said to have become a top advisor to George W. Bush.

Does the idea really sound that funny though? I’d personally love to see footage of Brian hosting “Intercourse Island,” which is what his post-”Anchorman” future had in store, but otherwise it’s hard to imagine what else can be done with the premise. Far more interesting and wacky was Rudd’s claim last year that “Anchorman 2” would be set in the ‘80s and possibly also the moon. Then again, it could still be set in outer space with geriatric characters, right?

Would you prefer a more direct sequel to “Anchorman” or do you like the idea of aging the characters by a few decades? Which character would you most like to see return for “Anchorman 2”?
